Application:

The ZY-KY800 Corrugated Box Compression Tester is a multifunctional, standard-type quality testing device developed by our company. It is primarily used for compression strength testing of various medium-sized, standard corrugated boxes, as well as for testing the compression strength of entire packaging containers made from other materials with a compression strength of less than 50 kN (5,000 kgf), such as food and beverage packaging, instant noodle packaging, cosmetic boxes, beer packaging, grain and oil packaging, as well as small color boxes, medium-sized cartons, large cartons, honeycomb cartons, and other paper products. This instrument features high control precision and advanced development technology, making it currently the most cost-effective general-purpose corrugated box compression tester in China.

The compression tester features functions such as testing, displaying, storing, analyzing, and printing all parameters specified in the standard, as well as real-time display of compression curves. It includes data processing capabilities that allow for direct calculation of statistical results, along with automatic reset and fault diagnosis functions, making it easy to operate.

Standards Referenced:

GB/T 4857.4: Basic tests on transport packaging—Part 4: Methods for compression and stacking tests using a compression testing machine;
GB/T 4857.3: Basic tests on transport packaging—Part 3: Method for static load stacking tests;

Test Features:

  1. Stacking Strength Test Function—Used to determine the stacking strength of a specimen by applying additional pressure to simulate packaging conditions until a preset pressure is reached and maintained. Throughout the test, the testing machine repeatedly adjusts the pressure in this manner to ensure that pressure fluctuations do not exceed the specified range, until the specified stacking test duration is reached. When the total deformation of the specimen under pressure reaches 100 mm, the testing machine automatically terminates the test.
  2. Fixed-Distance, Fixed-Force Test Function – Used to determine the ultimate compressive strength of high-end specimens with special requirements. The upper platen of the testing machine moves downward at a set speed, applies pressure to the specimen upon contact, and simultaneously measures the pressure value exerted on the specimen. Deformation measurement begins when the pressure reaches 220 N. When the specimen reaches the preset compression distance or pressure, the system automatically records the final pressure value and the specimen’s compressive deformation.
  3. Compressive Strength Test Function – Used to determine the ultimate compressive strength of the specimen. The upper platen of the testing machine moves downward at a set speed. Upon contacting the specimen, it applies pressure while simultaneously measuring the applied force. Deformation measurement begins once the force reaches a preset value. After the specimen fails, the testing machine automatically records the peak force and the deformation under compression.

Scope of Application:

  1. Cartons: Suitable for compressive strength testing of corrugated cartons, honeycomb cartons, single-wall cartons, and heavy-duty cartons
  2. Paper Products: Suitable for determining the compressive strength of paper corner protectors, paper drums, paper boxes, and paper cans
  3. Wooden Crates: Suitable for compressive strength testing of export wooden crates, sliding wooden crates, panel crates, and plywood crates
  4. Containers: Suitable for compressive strength testing of plastic packaging drums and IBCs
  5. Others: Suitable for compression testing of other fiberboard containers

Q1、What is a Carton Compression Tester and what is its primary purpose?

 A Carton Compression Tester (also known as a BCT testing machine) is a specialized instrument used to measure the compressive strength and deformation of corrugated boxes, honeycomb crates, and other packaging containers under heavy pressure loads. Its primary purpose is to simulate the pressure cartons face during warehouse stacking or transportation, ensuring the packaging does not collapse or sustain damage while protecting the contents.

Q2: What is the difference between Box Compression Test (BCT) and Edge Crush Test (ECT)?

ECT (Edge Crush Test): Measures the compressive strength of the cardboard edge itself, focusing on material properties.

BCT (Box Compression Test): Measures the overall structural strength of the finished carton. BCT is influenced by various factors including box dimensions, design, flap orientation, and environmental humidity, making it the most direct comprehensive index for evaluating finished carton quality.

Q3、What is the "Stacking Test" function and why is it important?

The Stacking Test simulates the long-term storage of cartons in a warehouse. The tester applies a constant set load (e.g., 500kg) and maintains that pressure for several hours or even days. This is critical for evaluating the creep performance of packaging under prolonged static loads, effectively preventing "collapse" accidents during long-term storage.

Q4:What are the main factors that affect the compression strength of a carton?

1、Environmental Humidity: Cartons absorb moisture easily, and increased humidity leads to a significant drop in compressive strength.

2、Flute Type: Different flute profiles (e.g., A, B, C, E flutes) have varying load-bearing capacities.

3、Box Design: The length-to-width ratio, flap design, and presence of handle holes all affect the compression value.

4、Printing Area: Large-area deep printing can damage paper fibers, thereby reducing structural strength.
