Application:

The ZY-CCY48 Corrugated Board Puncture Strength Tester is a specialized instrument designed to measure the puncture resistance (puncture strength) of corrugated board, used to evaluate the ability of corrugated board and corrugated boxes to withstand dynamic impact. This instrument is designed based on the principle of energy conversion. A triangular prismatic cone—the puncture head—manufactured according to standard geometric specifications is mounted on a specially shaped pendulum. The energy expended by the puncture head to pierce a hole in the cardboard specimen using the kinetic energy of the pendulum represents the puncture strength of that specimen.

The puncture strength tester primarily consists of a frame, base, clamping plate assembly, pendulum assembly, release mechanism, and control panel. The instrument features rapid clamping, automatic handle reset, reliable safety protection, an LCD display, and a thermal printer. The instrument features a compact design, comprehensive functionality, user-friendly operation, stable performance, and reliable safety protection. It is an indispensable and commonly used instrument for enterprises and departments involved in the production of cardboard and cartons, as well as in research and commercial inspection.

Standard:

ISO 3036 “Determination of the puncture resistance of paperboard”
GB/T 2679.7 “Determination of the puncture resistance of paperboard”
TAPPI T803 “Puncture test of containerboard”

Key Performance Advantages:

  1. Robust steel structure that prevents energy loss caused by vibrations during testing;
  2. 90-degree arched swing arm; triangular conical impact head (manufactured in accordance with international standards), made of chromium steel with added molybdenum and niobium, precision-ground via CNC machining, and heat-treated three times;
  3. Optimized friction resistance of 0.1 J (compared to 0.25 J for traditional equipment with friction sleeves);
  4. Release mechanism that replaces the traditional manual pull structure, reducing vibration during initial release;
  5. Separation mechanism with a safety protection system and safety shield; self-tightening, anti-loosening clamps with adjustable pressure;
  6. Utilizes advanced microelectronic measurement and control technology and computer technology, featuring a high degree of automation, simple and convenient operation, and safe, reliable automatic measurement, statistics, and printing of test
    results, with data storage capabilities;
  7. Modern mechatronic design concept, compact structure, attractive and elegant appearance, and easy maintenance.

Maintenance and Care Instructions:

  1. After completing a test, use a brush to remove paper debris from between the two clamping plates and wipe away any dust from the instrument.
  2. The instrument should be placed in a dry, vibration-free location and should not be moved frequently.
  3. When the instrument is not in use, place the pendulum arm on the positioning block and secure it with the locking block; remove the weights and fastening screws.
  4. Place the friction sleeve onto the conical block.
  5. Do not strike or puncture the puncture head. Do not perform puncture tests on metal sheets. Check the puncture head for wear and damage.
  6. Check all fastening screws and cylindrical pins on the pendulum arm and conical block for looseness. If any are loose, tighten the screws and reinstall the cylindrical pins in their original positions.

Q1、What is a Puncture Resistance Tester and what is its primary use?

A Puncture Resistance Tester is a specialized instrument designed to measure the ability of corrugated fiberboard, paperboard, or other packaging materials to resist penetration by sharp objects. By measuring the energy (in Joules, J) consumed as a pendulum punctures the specimen, it evaluates the material's durability against accidental impacts or sharp corner damage during shipping and handling.

Q2、How to ensure the measurement accuracy of a puncture tester?

  1. Friction Calibration: Regularly check the bearing friction of the pendulum to ensure energy loss is within standard limits.
  2. Specimen Clamping: Ensure the clamping force is uniform during the test to prevent the specimen from slipping under impact.
  3. Zero Calibration: Before starting each session, run the pendulum under a no-load condition to verify that the pointer or digital system accurately returns to zero.

Q3、Why is puncture resistance testing vital for corrugated boxes?

Corrugated boxes in the logistics chain are often exposed to risks like corner impacts, forklift mishaps, or internal cargo pressure. Puncture resistance is a core indicator for evaluating structural integrity. Unlike bursting strength tests, the puncture test better reflects the toughness of paperboard under concentrated external impact, making it a mandatory test for heavy-duty packaging and export trade.
